It works very nicely. So, you prefer this version to the buttons to the 
menu with #stayUp: ?  I like them both, they both achieve what I want: 
to be able to visualize sizes and appearances.

So, if it is for me, integrate your patch, or the menu with #stayUp: 
true. You choose :)
