You are right. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that perhaps the category
from the lower level can be chosen.
In the mean time, I've added a CategorizedProtocolBrowser to
Cuis-Smalltalk-Tools:

, for those interested in tracking its development.
Feature require: 'CategorizedProtocolBrowser' and the tool is ready to use
(it is invoked from System browser menu).
It is a first attempt, and didn't give much thought to issues like you
mentioned yet. I'm simply grouping messages in categories "without
thinking" for now ...
