The great good news is *Your skill will progress tremendously* and you 
will apply it elsewhere. This is an advantage often cited, but not 
easily perceived.

As you have rightly noticed, it is one of the many co-lateral impact of 
Smalltalk: being exposed *so easily* to the source code base of the 
whole system helps the user to progress and to learn.
