[Cuis-dev] Several changesets to address recent issues

Hi Folks,

Several issues with halos and or menus were found by you lately. The 
following changesets, to be reviewed in numerical order, are cleanups or 
address them. They don't solve all the issues, but I think they prepare 
the ground for further cleanup and fix.

Please review.

I'm also answering to the separate threads.
