Alan answered the question "Why is the DynaBook concept still relevant?"

The short answer is that we still need to aid multiple ways of thinking;
to break out of shallow stories/theater and stimulus/response addiction
and be able to deeply think iconic, symbolic, aesthetic, metric,
simulation, .. to capture and share deep understanding. [My paraphrase].

BTW, I have an old notebook (bag) of ideas.

The first page has written "What are you alive for?".

On the second page is written "User Centered Computing" "Isn't it time
we got the computer to work for us?"

Page 3 starts:
   Goals: Comprehensible, Usable, Robust, Predictable, Secure.
   What would you like to do?

After [random sample of notes/headers]:
   DynaBook as helpmate/associate/buddy
   Self check (periodic -> consistency)
   backup/rollback/undo [goal: infinite undo; distinguish try/undo from
what-if?]
   Non-Stop GUI (whatever you are doing, listen first to me)
   When old stuff is backed up (e.g. over 90 days),
      *Transient may be deleted; *Essential is kept
   Heartbeat "health monitor" [warn on low memory, battery, net
bandwidth, ..; options to fix]
   Resources are Services [name, purpose, capacity, check-interval,
current-status, options]
   How to find things: Index; Concept Map/Thesaurus; search
[name/date/purpose/..]
   Agenda of Tasks (editing a document is also a task); progress; time
frame; reminders
   Help Measure & Record
   UI should be
      Descriptive [What is going on? What is the problem?]
      Prescriptive [What can I do here? What are the (possible)
consequences?]
   Patterns
      success/fail [vs open-ended/infinite]
      wait/retry
      undo/redo
      pause -> explain/delete/continue
      rate/capacity
      options & consequences
      Time (record/replay, events, reminders, ..;
Clock/ratio/series/event/counter)
      show/hide, magnify/reduce, simplify/expand
      order/sort/filter/generate
      connect/project/recollect; cognitive clustering
      freeze/thaw, lock/unlock
      record/watch/remember; extract attributes & patterns
      schema evolution
      stories => layout board; analysis
      ...

I suspect you have similar lists/notes/designs.

FYI,
